Hi friend,

As an owner, leader, or seller, you know the real conversations don’t always happen in the meeting. They show up in the hallway, the follow-up call, or the text message that starts with, “This might be a dumb question…”

They’re not dumb. They’re just honest.

And that’s what this mini-series inside Dear Future Self is about. Welcome to Dear Future Client: Candid Conversations on Leading through Chaos.

We’ll cover the hard stuff—hiring, strategy, selling, tech, trends, burnout—and break it down into the kind of conversation we’d have if we were off mute, off camera, and finally off the record.

I Know I Need a Strategy, But I’m too Busy Executing

It starts the same way every time: “I know I need a strategy... but I just don’t have time for it right now.” This line usually comes after someone lists out everything they’re in the middle of.

These are smart people. They’re motivated. They get it. But they’re stuck. The meeting you set to sit down and make the plan gets swallowed up by fires, friction, and frustration in the moment. Processes slip, and good enough becomes an acceptable standard.

Strategy gives execution its purpose. It’s the lens you use to make better decisions, say no to the noise, and avoid chasing tactics for the sake of activity.

The biggest myth I see? That strategy is something you do after the fires are out. That once things settle, then you'll plan. But that’s not how it works.

You don’t need more hours in the day. You need better filters for how you’re spending them. Here’s how I’ve helped leaders—and myself—make that shift:

I’m not going to tell you to slow down. I know you’re busy. But I will tell you that nothing will change unless you do.

Start small. Block 60 minutes. Ask better questions. Write down what you’re trying to do—and what’s in your way. The most successful people I know didn’t wait until they had time. They mandated it.

If you've ever salivated over an 8-hour uninterrupted day, then this is your sign to make one. Open your calendar, skip to next week, and move those meetings that should be an email.

Get to strategizing.

Best,

Kara
